Read this first: it's early
The Founder's Edition is early access. You get the game while we're still finishing it, which means:
- There will be bugs. Some small, some that stop you in your tracks. Finding them is the point.
- We want your bug reports. Founders get a room on the site with a report form. Tell us where you were, what you did and what went wrong, and we'll fix it.
- Builds will change. New builds go up as fixes land. Sometimes a saved game won't carry over to the next build and you'll start fresh.
- Things may move around. A task might change, a tune might get rewritten, a dungeon might get harder or easier because of what founders tell us.
If you want a finished, polished game on day one, wait for the release. If you want to be there while it's made, and help make it, this is for you.
It's confidential, and you can show your play
Early builds are for founders only. Before you enter the Founders' room you sign the Founder's Early Access Agreement: please read it before you buy.
- The builds stay with you. You don't pass a build, or any file from one, to anyone. Downloads are recorded against your login, and builds may be marked as yours.
- You may post your own play. Screenshots and video of your own play are welcome on your own channels, as long as every post credits us as the source (the agreement gives the exact line) and says it's an unfinished build.
What founders get
- Every early build of the Commodore 64 game, as a D81 disk image, from now until release.
- The finished game when it's done.
- Your name on the Founders' Shrine. The released game will have a shrine in the realm carved with the name of every founder, for as long as there are 64s to play it on. You choose how your name reads.
- The PC version's test too: Hazelwood in 3D blocks, in your browser, with two-player play. See it >
- A discount on the boxed edition when it comes.
What you need
A Commodore 64 (PAL or NTSC) with a Kung Fu Flash, SD2IEC, Ultimate, Pi1541 or a 1581 drive, or the VICE emulator. No RAM expansion needed.
No refunds
All Founder's Edition sales are final. We do not give refunds. The Founder's Edition is a digital product: as soon as you've paid, you can download the game, and a download can't be given back. By buying, you agree that:
- you are buying early access to an unfinished game, with bugs, as described on this page;
- you get the download right away, and that's why the sale can't be undone;
- bugs, changes between builds and lost saved games during early access are not grounds for a refund.
If something is wrong with your purchase itself (you were charged twice, or you paid and can't get into the Founders' room), reply to your Stripe receipt and we'll put it right.
How it works
- Pay through Stripe. You'll be asked how you want your name to read on the shrine (up to 16 letters). By paying you agree to the no-refunds policy above.
- You come straight back here, sign the Founder's Early Access Agreement and pick a login for the Founders' room.
- Download the latest build, play, and send us what you find.
