THE JUKEBOX IS OPEN
The SID chip is the reason a lot of us still turn the 64 on. So we built a jukebox.
Pick a tune and it plays right in the page. While it plays, you can watch the chip work: each of the three voices drawn from the SID's own registers as the music changes them.
How it sounds
Our first try used a small JavaScript player. It worked, but it didn't sound like a 64, and that's the whole point. So we threw it out.
The jukebox now runs libsidplayfp with reSIDfp, the same emulation used by serious SID players, which recreates the chip and the 64 around it cycle by cycle. It's compiled to WebAssembly and runs in its own thread in your browser, so the music doesn't stutter while the page does other things. Its licence and source are linked from the jukebox.
What's on it
A growing selection of SID tunes, listed with their names, composers and years. Turn it up.
