ON THE WHITEBOARD

Hazelwood is the big one, and Rebellion is next. But the whiteboard filled up fast. Here's what's on it. None of it is built yet; these are ideas with plans written, waiting their turn.

QB1

A college quarterback trying to win the starting job. You won't spend the game playing football games. You spend it at practice: sprints that test your joystick and your wrist the way the old track games did, hitting receivers on the run, slipping the rush. Score well enough at practice and you take the field on game day. The games themselves play out on their own; the competition is earning your spot.

The Rookie

The same idea in pro baseball. Spring training to the big leagues, with practice as the main event. We've never seen a game built around the practices, and we think there's something there.

The 80s side quests

This is the one we're most excited about. A set of small games, each set during a movie we grew up on, where you're not the hero of the film. You're someone at the edge of it with a job of your own. A few hints:

  • A student at a certain high school on a certain famous day off, raising money for a good cause before the last bell.
  • An electronics store clerk holding the line against the Black Friday rush, with 80s gadgets as the weapons.
  • A scientist who needs a very cool car and a skateboarding teenager to build a time machine.
  • A guest stuck on another floor of a tower on Christmas Eve.
  • A kid with a modem on the night a military computer wants to play a game.

There are more. Each one is its own game, a one-off with its own feel, and the plan is for them to make a collection you could line up on a shelf, the way we used to with the boxes.

Which one would you want first?
